Ten Reasons to Invest in Overseas Property
If you are undecided about whether you should invest in overseas property, here are ten reasons why you should consider it. Not all of the reasons will apply to you but I'm sure some of them will.
1. To make money - this is the main reason why many people invest. Overseas property has been a top financial performer for number of years. You can pick and choose the best overseas market to invest in out of the many out there, and as long as you do your research well enough, you can make excellent capital gains.
2. For a second home - you may want an overseas property that is your own to go on holiday to. Many international real estate investors have bought second homes abroad that they can easily travel to and from. Overseas second homes can be great to share with the family too.
3. To move abroad completely - many people buy overseas to move abroad permanently. It is not just older retirees moving abroad, but younger people are moving in ever greater numbers for work or for lifestyle reasons. With many overseas property markets opening up and many real estate companies offering expert advice regarding particular countires, it is easier to move abroad then ever before.
4. International real estate companies - there are many international real estate companies that can offer expert services for people wanting to buy overseas property whether as an investment or permament residence.
5. The world has become a smaller place - with better communications, cheap flights, train services, internet, and cheap international phone calls, it is easier to live abroad now or to visit your overseas property.
6. To get some sun - if you live in a Northern European country, parts of North America or anywhere where sun is a precious commodity, having an overseas property in the sun can be a real escape. Some sun can also be be good for you.
7. You can rent your property out - if you pick the right area, that is in demand, renting out your international real estate can be quite lucrative. If you are letting a place in a summer holiday destination, look for areas with strong demand at peak periods. This way you will may be able to cover lack of demand at off peak times of the year. Alternatively look for steady rental yields year round, ideal if you have a property in a city.
8. Status - some people love the status of owning international real estate. I met someone recently who had just bought an apartment in Nice, France. The fact that he dropped how he owned this apartment into almost everything he said indicated to me he had partly bought it for status.
9. To renovate - You can buy an older property and take on the challenge of turning it into a beautiful new home. This isn't normally for the faint-hearted. Renovating a property in an unknown country and trying to understand the local culture and way of life can be tricky. Language barriers can also be a real problem for overseas property renovators. If you can get around all this then renovating a property abroad can be very rewarding.
10. It's exciting - Owning a property in another country really is exciting. It's all too easy to get weighed down with some of the financial and legal implactions which of course are important, but once this is over you can delight in owning your very own property in a foreign land. Such a thing for previous generations would have been unheard of.
